Frequently Asked Questions

Starting something new like yoga or even just getting to know a new studio can bring up a lot of questions! Check out the class descriptions to find a class that’s right for you.

Do I need to register before my first class?

All of the teachers at Anahata are here to support you in growing your yoga practice. Don't hesitate to ask any questions, or let them know if you have any troubles.

All the classes on our regular class schedule are on-going: there is no need to pre-register.

Is there anything special I need to do as a new student?

The first time you come to class you’ll fill out a new student form/waiver.  Even if you’ve been to the studio before, if you haven’t filled out one of these forms or if it’s been a long time, please do so.

I’ve never done yoga before.  Which class should I come to?

Beginning Yoga (Mondays at 5:30 pm) would be a great place to start.  Gentle Flow will also be very accessible to beginners.  You might also choose to begin with a private yoga session.

Do I need to come to class early?

No, but you are welcome to come 5-10 minutes early for your classes, so you have time to relax and settle in if you would like.

What if I am late?

If you are late, please just wait until after the opening meditation, and then come on in.  Better late than never!

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes such as sweats, leggings, t-shirts, or tank tops and plan on removing your socks.

Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?

A personal yoga mat is recommended, but we have mats you can use, along with all the other basic yoga props.  Jade Yoga Mats are available for purchase.

I have some physical limitations.  Can I still do yoga?

Absolutely! It is IMPORTANT to tell the teacher about any ongoing injuries, pain, pregnancy, or medical conditions before the start of class. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be flexible to practice yoga.  Yoga is not about accomplishing complicated poses but about being present with our current situation.

What is the cell phone etiquette?  I have a job that I need to be on call for.

Please turn your cell phone OFF.  Phones on vibrate are fine to accommodate folks on-call.

I’m a little nervous.

That’s okay!  We’re here to support you…just please be gentle with yourself, each other, the yoga space and props. Move mindfully- it’s all a part of the practice.

I think I might have left something behind.  What should I do?

Please check for ALL of your belongings before leaving the studio. If you forget anything, please check back! Items left behind are stored in the back-room and regularly donated.

Do you have water to drink?

Drinking water is available. Your own water bottle is recommended.  Organic India Tulsi teas are self-serve and by donation. Please always use HOT CUPS for hot water.

Are you open on holidays?

Anahata is open for many holidays, but closed for Thanksgiving weekend (Thursday – Sunday) and Christmas Break (December 19 – January 1st).  The studio will also be closed for a 2 week Spring Break in March.
