Yoga Teacher Training

With Stephanie Dickerson and special guest teachers

200 hours – tentatively scheduled for early summer 2012

From observing and talking to many graduates of typical YTT programs, I have learned that completing the training does not guarantee that you will feel confident or ready to teach!  My goal is to give you not only the skills to teach but the CONFIDENCE to be a GREAT teacher. I am passionate about yoga teachers ‘living’ their yoga and developing their authentic voice in teaching.

How will this training get you there?

Your experience probably tells you that yoga is such an infinite body of knowledge that it’s impossible to cover it all in 200 hours. In this training you will learn all the important lingo and techniques but you’ll get so much more than that! My teaching training program will emphasize learning to use your personal practice (on and off the mat) as a laboratory for a lifetime of learning. You will learn to translate your experiences of personal growth and relationship challenges into the language of yoga, enabling you teach in a rich and meaningful, ever changing way. You will also receive and observe 1 – on – 1 instruction to refine your personal practice and alignment- making sure your time on the mat is juicy and effective.

The methodology of teaching will be emphasized. You will master  the skills of understanding, breaking down and teaching just about anything. I am a firm believer in learning the basics of teaching – the kind of basics that are applicable to every art, science and skill.  As you learn these basics you will get tons of experience finding your voice!

We will also spend lots of time learning Anatomy & Physiology from a Physical Therapy perspective with Anette Avant, PT, owner/therapist of Kenai Physical Therapy, INC.  Anette will bring with her Chester Skeleton, her warm southern nature and sense of humor, her PT expertise AND her training as a practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method.  We’ll work with the fully functionalized skeleton, placing him in actual yoga poses to gain a hands-on understanding of the body. We’ll also learn to better FEEL our own skeletons using Feldenkrais scans.  In addition, the A & P training will feature another guest expert, an LMT with a bodywork perspective and an in-depth understanding of the all important role of the fascial planes of the body.

All of our time together will be infused with the wisdom of Ayurveda. We will delve into the sister science of yoga (not just scratch the surface like many YTTs) and you will learn LIVE your yoga.  You will learn the basic Ayurvedic daily routine (including yoga and meditation) and will be CHALLENGED to practice this on a daily basis. You’ll learn the essentials of a delicious, simple Ayurvedic diet and will have a chance to practice your skills with weekend lunches.  We’ll eat together (the main meal will be provided) on Saturdays & Sundays, and practice bringing consciousness to our meal times.
